The home side had lead as early as the fifth minute when Chris Cusiter caught the visiting defence on the hop with a quick tapped penalty. The ball was shifted in slick style from Gregor Townsend to Ben MacDougall, who provided the time and space for winger Simon Danielli to skid over in the corner.
Charlie Hore was off-target with the tricky conversion, however he made instant amends with a penalty when Glasgow failed to release in contact. The strike acted as a wake-up call to the Warriors and they burst back into the contest with two goals from Dan Parks in the space of four minutes.
And they enjoyed a reprieve when Hore sent his next attempt past the near post from 35 metres. Borders suffered a further setback in the 25th minute when Scotland prop Bruce Douglas was sent to the sin-bin by referee Peter Allan after committing a professional foul.
Glasgow then enjoyed the bulk of possession and territory, but couldn’t turn pressure into points as the home markers put in a series of crunching tackles. Poor discipline cost the Warriors dear in the initial stages of the second half, with Hore rediscovering his form to bang over three penalties in quickfire order.
The first was for a ruck offence, the next was for obstruction by Sam Pinder - who was yellow carded - and the third successful kick was for offside in the back-line. Glasgow stepped up the intensity and winger Rory Lamont snatched an opportunist try, converted by Parks, to set up a tense finale.
But their hopes of completing a dramatic fightback were dashed when substitute forward Gregor Hayter was also ordered to the sin-bin for killing the ball on the ground. And veteran hooker Stevie Scott sealed the Reivers´ win with a touchdown two minutes from time after good work by Nikki Walker and Semo Sititi, Hore slotting the extras.
