Edinburgh were a class apart, scoring eight tries as they bounced back from the disappointment of their 11-3 defeat to Connacht last weekend.
The scene was set as early as the second minute, Edinburgh working a fine try.
Ander Monro set up a line-out with a penalty from halfway and in a clever move prop Allan Jacobsen’s powerful break burst a hole in the Borders defence.
The ball was spun out to the left where Derrick Lee’s pass found wing Craig Joiner over who crashed over in the corner.
Edinburgh dominated the first half, and when Borders lost Andy Rennick to the bin, the inevitable floodgates opened, seeing Edinburgh in 24-0 to the good at the half.
The second period began as the first half had, centre Tom Philip making the break that allowed Lee to streak in for the fourth try and the bonus point.
The one-way traffic continued to the final whistle, while Edinburgh will rightly be pleased with their demolition job, Borders will have to go back to the drawing board.
