Ulster Bounce Back
33 - 6
Ravenhill   Att: 6,000
Referee: Nigel Whitehouse
Friday 12th September 2003, 19:35
Ulster bounced back from last weekend's defeat to the Ospreys with a confident victory over Glasgow at Ravenhill.
Their comprehensive Celtic League victory will have been pleasing to coach Alan Solomans who went on record as saying he expected a much improved showing to his side’s performance against the Ospreys last weekend, but in contrast Glasgow’ s management will be scratching their heads as their side inexplicably failed to produce a challenge for the Irish side.

Ulster began well when new signing Rowan Frost recorded the game’s first five-pointer after six minutes which was converted by fly-half Adam Larkin.

Calvin Howarth missed a 14th minute opportunity to reply for the visitors when his 35-metre penalty whistled past the upright. Glasgow, at this stage playing with confidence, pushed for points, and were rewarded when Stuart Moffat dropped a goal after 25 minutes.

A battle of the boots ensued, Larkin and Calvin Howarth swapping three pointers. But the Ulster pack served notice of their dominance when they produced a great drive in the 34th minute resulting in club captain Andy Ward touching down.

Larkin's conversion meant Ulster had built a 17-6 half time lead, and it appeared there was no way back for the Scots.

The second period saw Ulster confirm their superiority, Larkin adding two more penalties to extend the home team's advantage to 17 points.

When the Ulster fly-half added another penalty in the 64th minute the Ravenhill fans knew it was game over. Shane Stewart's 77th minute try was the icing on the cake for Ulster.
