Scarlets Slay The Dragons
40 - 6
Stradey Park   Att: 2,460
Referee: Nigel Williams

The Scarlets extended their winning run by beating the Dragons into submission at Stradey Park. The victory sees them tear into the quarter-finals of the Celtic Cup, where they will face Connacht at home on October 3.
Pre-match talk had been of the Dragons seeking revenge for the 35-11 at Stradey Park in the Celtic League opening weekend, but they never really looked like troubling a second string Scarlet side without their injured talisman, Scott Quinnell.
Llanelli raced to a 23-6 interval lead thanks to the accurate boot of Gareth Bowen and two well-taken tries, which were due reward for the dominance of their pack.

After early exchanges of penalties, home fly-half Gareth Bowen slotted three penalties to two from opposite number Lee Jarvis, the Scarlets stepped up a gear to demolish the Dragons.

The first try came when Tal Selley charged down a clearance from Lee Jarvis - and the second was the upshot of a powerful break from ageless No 8, Emyr Lewis.

His burst made room for an impressive move through the Llanelli backs, prompted by the deft hands of their captain, Leigh Davies, to free full-back Barry Davies on the outside.

Further scores for Richard Rees on the other wing, full-back Barry Davies and substitute scrum-half Mike Phillips, with a second try from Selley finishing the scoring.

Newport’s line remained undented for 20 minutes, but once it had been breached, there was only on winner.
