Contepomi had kicked two penalties in response to Hodge’s opening score before the Leinster skipper created the space for Heaslip to dive over on the right hand side with the Argentinean’s conversion making it 13-3. Despite creating a few chances before the break Leinster were unable to increase their lead with Edinburgh’s superb defence, even when reduced to 14 by the sin binning of Ally Hogg, kept the home side in check.

They built on that defence in the closing stages to look for a losing bonus point and were rewarded when Hodge scored a second penalty late on which gave them the bonus point
