Munster's Jason Holland works hard to make some yards
The victory, thanks largely to a brace of tries from Denis Leamy and other five-pointers from John Hayes, Alan Quinlan and Anthony Horgan, was a fitting finale for coach Alan Gaffney in his last league game in charge.

Edinburgh asserted control early on thanks to two penalties from fullback Chris Paterson and that lead was cemented with a try from flyhalf Phil Godman.

But Munster eventually got their game into gear with British & Irish Lion prop John Hayes getting on the end of a driving maul.

Flyhalf Jason Holland, making his 100th appearance for the province, slotted the conversion, and he was able to repeat that feat when Anthony Horgan grabbed the men from Munster's second try.

Trailing 17-13 at the break ,the visitors soon took the initiative when replacement Alasdair Dickinson forced his way over after a concerted spell of pressure. Paterson added the extras.

As so often before, the Munster pack took it on themselves to drag the team back into the game and their dominace soon began to show with Leamy the main benefactor, running in two scores and Alan Quinlan also crossing.

Replacement flyhalf Paul Burke snatched away Edinburgh's bonus point in the closing stages of the tie.

The result ensures a re-match between the two sides in the Celtic Cup quarter-finals thanks to their final league positions of 2nd and 7th respectively.
