| Having represented Scotland and, in the past, the Scottish Borders district side, Kerr said: “I have never played Celtic League rugby before and I am really looking forward to the new challenge.
“The Reivers have a great coaching set-up. Steve Bates has brought a lot to the Borders and I know George Graham and Alan Tait very well having been involved with them during Scotland duty.
On his return to the Borders, Kerr added: “My wife and I are expecting a baby and I grew up in Berwick so my family ties are in the Borders - that is another reason why a move to the Reivers is good for me at this stage in my career.”
Reivers head coach Steve Bates added: “Gavin is a major signing for us having made a great contribution to the success of Scotland this season and he is a major signing for us. It shows that we have serious intentions of continuing to be a competitive side next season and beyond.
“It says a lot for the Reivers that a player of Gavin’s stature and experience is coming to the Borders.
“We are very much looking forward to working with Gavin, and Gavin working with us, to encourage young talent in the Borders,” he added.
