Border Reivers have secured the final brick in their front row wall by re-signing prop Bruce Douglas for two years.
Bruce, who plays at tight-head prop, will join fellow Calcutta Cup front row heroes hooker Ross Ford and loose-head prop Gavin Kerr at Netherdale next season.

Back-row forward Kelly Brown also joins the latest list of signings for the Reivers as he extends his stay at Netherdale for another two years.

On the eve of the Reivers’ Celtic League clash against Connacht at Netherdale (kick-off 7:30pm), Douglas said: “Teaming up with Ross Ford and Gavin Kerr next season will give us a pretty impressive front row.

“I have spoken with Frank Hadden and I have decided that in the build-up for the World Cup, it’s best for me to play in Scotland due to the amount of preparation that will go into the squad that is ultimately selected, of which I hope to be a part.”

Kelly Brown added: “It is a great opportunity for me to continue progressing my game in the Borders and with the coaching staff at the Reivers.

“I am very excited about the possibility of playing against the best teams in Europe in the Heineken Cup next year and hopefully this will help me into regular contention for a Scotland place.”

Border Reivers head coach Steve Bates said: “It’s important for us that both Bruce and Kelly have decided to extend their stay at the Borders.

“Both have been heavily involved with the Scotland squad and Bruce’s performances in all five Scotland games which is important to the Reivers.

”It’s key to our team that we have these guys making an impact at international level and Bruce and Kelly certainly do that.”

Bruce Douglas is at the forefront of Scotland’s pack and featured in all five of Scotland’s 2006 RBS 6 Nations games, including the memorable Calcutta Cup victory at Murrayfield.

Bruce has been a member of the Reivers squad since the team was established in 2002 having completed a season with NEC Harlequins.

He has turned out for the Reivers 13 times this season and will give the Borders an immense front row as they seek possible Heineken Cup competition next year.

Kelly Brown, 23, has won three caps for his country and was a member of Frank Hadden’s 2006 RBS 6 Nations squad.

Kelly has represented his country at all age-grade levels and has impressed on the world sevens stage, where he has won seven caps for Scotland.
