| In his 16 games this season in the Magners League and Heineken Cup, he has scored five tries. Last week, he made his first appearance for Scotland A in the 13-7 victory over Italy at McDiarmid Park.
On committing to the club for a further two years, Ben Cairns said: “I’m really happy to have signed with Edinburgh again. This season could not have gone any better and hopefully next season will carry on in the same vein. To be in the starting line up so often, has been great. I have definitely improved as a player, working full time with the other guys.
“I’m an Edinburgh boy so I’m really glad to be staying with Edinburgh.”
Head coach Lynn Howells said: “It is important to have young Scottish talent in the squad and Ben has shown he’s more than capable of playing both Magners League and European rugby.
Chairman of Edinburgh Rugby, Alex Carruthers added: “We are delighted that Ben is staying with us next season as he has already shown he has a very bright future.
“Traditionally, Edinburgh has always had a blend of internationalists, young Scots and some overseas players. This is reiterated in the signings we have made as we finalise the squad for next season, and the majority of our current internationalists remain under contract for next season."
