Edinburgh Rugby has today strengthened the pack ahead of next season by signing Argentinian prop Augusto Allori and Scotland under 21 flanker Scott Newlands.
Augusto Allori, who has been capped for Argentina, is currently with Benetton Treviso. He played in all six of their Heineken Cup matches this season and helped them to win the Italian Championship last year. The loose head prop has also had spells with French clubs Brive and Tarbes, and comes from the Tucuman Lawn Tennis Club in Argentina.

Scott Newlands is currently an apprentice player with the Border Reivers having also played for Kelso and Heriot's. The blind-side flanker has represented Scotland at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.

Augusto Allori said: "I am happy to be signing for Edinburgh. I know it will not be easy to get into the team with Allan Jacobsen there, but I am looking forward to the challenge and to working hard to move up the ranks."

Edinburgh head coach Lynn Howells said: "Augusto will strengthen the loose head position which is what we were looking to do, and as he has competed in Europe this year, he will give us the experience we need at this high level. He gives us a degree of flexibility as he is able to play all positions in the front row, but is a specialist loose head prop.

Scrummaging consultant Massimo Cuttitta added: "I have seen him play and he shows a lot of promise as a young prop. He is very professional in his approach, taking his rugby and his scrummaging very seriously, and he's also very good in the loose. He comes from Tucuman where scrummaging is important, and because what they do is similar to what we are doing here, he will fit in at Edinburgh very well."

Speaking on Scott Newlands, the head coach said: "Scott is a big, abrasive back row forward. He is aggressive in the contact area, hits above his weight, and his height in the lineout gives us options in the back row. He will also be available through the World Cup and Six Nations. Scott shows a lot of potential and is one of the up and coming back row forwards in Scottish rugby, and as a young, developing player, we will be looking to bring him on for the future."

Scott Newlands said: "I am pleased to be coming to Edinburgh next season. They play a good brand of rugby and I'm looking forward to the challenge of getting in the team and hopefully I'll play a big part next season."
