Macfadyen out of Six Nations reckoning

Glasgow flanker Donnie Macfadyen will be out of action for three months after undergoing an operation on his knee.
Glasgow Chief Executive David Jordan has revealed that the damage found to the flanker’s left knee was more extensive than had been expected. “He’ll miss the Six Nations’ Championship,” said Jordan. “We probably won’t see him again in the Celtic League this season.” Glasgow’s last scheduled league game is against Leinster at Hughenden in mid-April, though Celtic Cup games follow later that month and in May.

Three other Glasgow players, Rory Kerr, Sam Pinder, and Colin Gregor, are also having operations this week. Kerr surgery on his knee follows an injury last month whereas the two others are having groin surgery.

Because of the operations on Pinder and Gregor, Graeme Beveridge will be the only scrum half in Glasgow’s squad for the Heineken Cup match against Northampton Saints at Franklin’s Gardens on Friday evening as Beveridge and Pinder are the only other scrum halves registered for European competition.
