The Borders have signed Samoa lock Opeta Palepoi on a three-year contract for next season.
The 29-year-old, who has a Scottish wife, joins the club from Harlequins after a loan spell with Rotherham Titans. Palepoi was included in the 2003 Rugby World Cup's `dream team' after the quarter-final stages.

Borders head coach Steve Bates said: ``Opeta has a lot of international experience with Samoa.

``He is the kind of fast athletic player who will suit our kind of game and of course he will provide extra competition for places in the starting team.''

Palepoi has played at blindside flanker and number eight as well as at lock. His most recent game in Britain was in the Tsunami benefit game between the northern and southern hemispheres at Twickenham last month.
