| The Scarlets are working closely with Carmarthenshire County Council Architects, Lawry, to produce the first draft of plans for the proposed 15,000-seater stadium at Trostre.
Although these plans will not include detail of the facilities inside the stadium, the Scarlets have commissioned market research to help identify what the demand is likely to be for facilities both on match days and other days.
“We want to ensure that the stadium reflects the needs of all our supporters, both individuals and businesses”, says Corporate Development Director, Joanna Masters.
“And we also want to know what the local community would like to see in the stadium that will be of benefit to them on non match days”.
Over the next fortnight over 200 corporate supporters and season ticket holders will be interviews by telephone. In addition, street interviews will be carried out in Llanelli and towns across the region including Carmarthen, Llandeilo, Haverfordwest, Cardigan and Aberystwyth.
The results of the research will help finalise the outline stages of the design but, more importantly, begin the process of identifying what will go inside.
“The plan is to be in our new home by August 2007”, says Joanna. “And when we move in we want it to be absolutely the right stadium for us and our supporters. That means state-of-the-art facilities but, equally importantly, the right atmosphere. We want an intimidating venue for the top sides in Europe to come and play us”.
Once the outline plan is complete the Scarlets intend to have a model on show at Stradey Park for supporters to view and comment on.
