Robert Jones, the former Wales and British Lions scrum half is joining the Scarlets – as our Recruitment and Development Manager.
|
He will work closely with Director of Rugby, Gareth Jenkins, and his coaching team to identify the types of players the Scarlets will need to sign both in the short and longer term. He will then be responsible for finding the individuals who meet those profiles.
His work will take him around the Scarlets region and also worldwide - where the priority will be Welsh-qualified players – leaving no stone unturned in our attempt to put together a conveyer belt of world class players.
Rob said of his appointment: “I am delighted to be joining the Scarlets and to be part of the regions ambition to be consistently one of Europe’s leading. I believe that my role will be fundamental in ensuring that the Scarlets sustain success in the short, medium and longer term”.
“The Scarlets region, has always supplied a huge number of world class players and my role will be to ensure that no player with the potential to play top level rugby goes unnoticed. Secondly, with the number of Welsh qualified players playing outside of Wales we’ll be looking to establish links to ensure that any Welsh qualified players come to Wales for the future of the Scarlets and Welsh rugby”.
As well as the recruitment, Rob will also play an important part in the development of the younger Scarlets. His success in this area is well respected at Stradey as we’ve seen the benefits Dwayne Peel has had from working alongside one of the great Welsh players.
Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher expressed everyone’s delight at signing Rob, saying: “We’re looking forward to welcoming him to Stradey. Rob is vastly experienced with a great track record and commands respect from everyone he works with. I’m sure he’ll make a significant contribution to our future success.” |
