The Lions opened their tour of New Zealand with a 34-20 win over bay of Plenty on Saturday.

Celtic League players were to the fore with Tom Shanklin, Dwayne Peel and Gordon D’Arcy scoring three of the six tries.

However there was heartache for Lawrence Dallaglio who broke his ankle after only 20 minutes. The Wasps No.8 will be replaced on the tour by Llanelli Scarlets skipper and Ireland test player Simon Easterby who will join the party at the beginning of the week.
