The British & Irish Lions tasted defeat for the first time on their tour of New Zealand on Saturday, going down 19-13 at the hands of the New Zealand Maori at the Waikato Stadium, Hamilton.
The Lions were outplayed by a committed Maori side inspired by skipper Jono Gibbes in what had been billed as the 'unofficial fourth Test' by the media.

The defeat, and more importantly the performance will have provided plenty of food for thought for head coach Clive Woodward.

The much-vaunted Lions pack failed to dominate with Munster's Paul O'Connell one of very few players to further their chances of a place in the Test side.

Skipper Brian O'Driscoll threatened to inspire a late comeback with a try but the Leinster star's effort was too little too late.

The Lions othe rpoints came from the boot of Stephen Jones, who kicked two penalties and a conversion.
