| The Welshman was among several Celtic stars who gave their test chances a huge nudge with fine performances. The Lions pack was dominant throughout with Leinster’s Shane Byrne also in good form both at the scrum and at the lineout where his accurate throwing could see him make the first test side. Tour replacement and Llanelli Scarlets skipper Simon Easterby could also join his fellow Irish player in the test reckoning after a great Lions debut.
Toulouse based Welsh skipper Gareth Thomas scored the Lions other try, with Jonny Wilkinson kicking 13 points.
