Huge crowd expected for Champions clash – and Charlotte!

A stadium attendance record is expected at the Ospreys new home on Friday night when the Celtic League Champions face the Premiership Champions, London Wasps, in their final pre-season game before the defence of their title gets underway next weekend.
Over 15,000 tickets had been sold for the cross border challenge meaning that it is now already the largest crowd attendance since regional rugby was established in Wales two years ago.

Over 3,000 tickets were sold on Tuesday alone after it was announced that Welsh singing sensation, Charlotte Church, would be singing before the game. The Voice of an Angel star-turned-pop princess is set to kick off the Celtic League Champions mini Olympic-style opening ceremony, which is being tipped as one of the most spectacular sporting events Wales has ever seen.
The 30-minute pre-match spectacular, which will be broadcast live on television throughout Wales, promises a combination of high adrenaline music, theatre and circus. A giant seven-metre diameter heliosphere with an acrobatic aerialist beneath will circle the 20,000-seat stadium while the crowd watches rousing performances from artistes such as the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers - the UK's only professional Japanese-trained Taiko Drum group. Dramatic real flame special effects will add to the atmosphere as a giant 15-metre high replica Ospreys shirt and giant inflatable rugby balls are abseiled into the stadium and then passed into the crowd.

Ospreys bosses are expecting the remaining 4,000 tickets to go quickly and are advising, where possible, that people buy them from the stadium ticket office in person as any tickets bought online or over the phone from now on cannot be posted out and will need to be picked up before the match.

Ospreys Managing Director, Mike Cuddy, said: "We've had an absolutely phenomenal sales period over the last few days and to already have the highest ever crowd attendance in the history of regional rugby in Wales is amazing.
"We would strongly advise people, if they can, to buy their tickets from the stadium ticket office in person from now on as online and telephone sales will need to be picked up from the ticket office before the game. If they can't, then we would advise them to ensure that they allow plenty of time before the pre-match show at 7.30pm to pick up their tickets as the ticket office is likely to be inundated with thousands of fans."

Tickets for the event range from £13 to £20 with various concessions. They are available by calling 08700 400004, online at www.ospreysrugby.com or at the stadium ticket office which is open from 11.30am to 7pm Monday to Friday. The Wasps game is also part of the Ospreys season ticket package which is available by calling 01792 616500 or visiting www.ospreysrugby.com. Prices start from £125 for adults and £30 for children and guarantee a minimum of 13 top-flight rugby games at the stadium.

Meanwhile Head Coach, Lyn Jones  has named his side for the game, commenting: "We are anticipating a highly competitive friendly and it is massive occasion for us as we focus on the Regional Rugby Stadium at Morfa. However, win or lose this fixture will have little bearing on the season ahead. Having said that Wasps are a team full of quality players and I look forward to measuring ourselves against them"
"Although we are without three of our four Lions we have named a strong side and Ryan, Shane and Gavin will be there to support the boys. It will be a wonderful occasion in front of a packed stadium and I am sure it will be a match fit for the occasion"
