Scottish Rugby today launches an initiative designed to further underline the links which involve people in the game at each and every level in Scotland as well as attempting to draw new audiences to the sport.
And the beauty of the scheme is that not only can it benefit the pro-teams by increasing crowds, it can also boost clubs in the community by assisting with their fund-raising.

SRU Chief Executive Gordon McKie said: “I commend this scheme as it’s a win/win for both the professional and community sections of our game.

“We’re already seeing much greater effort at improving the links between the professional and community tiers of the game through initiatives such as our National Academies and the protocol where the pro-teams can release professional players to represent clubs in BT Premier Division 1.

“Today’s announcement is another tangible example of our desire to have all of Scottish Rugby working as one, with the sport in our country as the ultimate winner.”

The 50% cashback scheme will mean that for every ticket bought for home Celtic League matches involving Border Reivers, Edinburgh Gunners and Glasgow Warriors, your club or organisation will receive 50% cash back.

Colin Reid, from the SRU’s Community Marketing Department, said: “The scheme is open to any sports club, school, youth organisation, business or charity.

“Your organisation simply has to pre-order a minimum of 20 tickets for a game.  These can be for any area of the ground at Netherdale, Murrayfield or Hughenden and the tickets can be a mixture of different parts of the ground.

“Extra tickets can be bought at the ground on game day but a cashback scheme form must be completed and returned at the time of purchase.

“Thereafter your club or organisation will be sent a cheque for 50% of the total amount of tickets bought, payable within 14 days.

“So not only can you and your mates come along and support your pro-team against the best of opposition from Ireland and Wales but, in the rugby context, you can be helping your club buy kit or equipment, improve your ground, or make a contribution to your tour funds.”

An application form is available by e-mailing cashback@sru.org.uk.  More details also by phoning the SRU ticket hotline on 0131 346 5100.
