In 2003/04, the season that League games were first played on a home and away basis, Celtic Rugby introduced an award for the 'Best Supported Team' recognising the team with the highest average gate over the season. In 2008-09 Munster were the best supported team with an average of nearly 18,000, while average gates across the Magners League rose to 8,126 an increase of 20% over last season's figure, and more than doubling the attendances since 2003/04, the first season the league was played on a home and away basis.
